Ear attachment is a term used exclusively in passport photo requirements. It refers to the points on the side of the head where the ears are attached.
In some cases, the ear attachments may not be visible, especially in people with flat ears and a round face.
The official passport photo rules state that while the ears themselves do not need to be fully visible, the ear attachment must be visible on both sides.
This is to determine the width of the face, which should be between face_width_min and face_width_max inches from ear to ear. A face that is too wide or too narrow can cause issues with identification.
It is important to note that the ear attachments cannot be determined if the sides of the face are completely covered. Therefore, any headwear worn in the passport photo should not cover the ear attachments, unless it is for religious or philosophical reasons.
