Wrinkles are folds in the skin surface. Permanent wrinkles occur when there is a break in the skin caused by sagging of the skin structure, which is an effect of decreasing protein presence in the skin. Wrinkles mostly appear due to aging, but can also be accelerated by stress, smoking, and UV radiation.
There are no specific rules established for having wrinkles on passport photos, as it is a natural occurrence. It is important to have a good likeness in the passport photo, meaning that the amount of wrinkles should be roughly the same as when you apply for your travel document.
You cannot become unrecognizable due to wrinkles. It is not mandatory to request a new document with an updated passport photo if you have significant changes due to wrinkles, as the document remains valid for 10 years.
